How to set your Focus

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 6:33

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

What do these verses have in common?  The focus is on Jesus.  When we have our focus set on Jesus, the world around us may be in chaos, but our spirit won’t be.  We know that He is in control, and for me, that means everything will be okay.

How do I know when my focus is on Jesus?  Lets compare a flashlight to a laser.  When a flashlight is on, the view is broad.  You can see what is going on around you, and everything you come across. You can follow Jesus, but the things around you catch your eye as well.  You may start to worry about what you see.  You may try to take control of things if you don’t like the direction they are going.  You may start asking Jesus if he knows what he is doing.  It is hard to focus solely on Jesus when you can see everything else.

A laser’s view is very singled.  It can only point to one thing at a time.  Its like having blinders on, you can only see what is ahead.  Our laser focus should always be pointing to Jesus, he should be the only thing we set our sights on.  I can tell when my focus is off of Him when I start putting my trust in other things before I think to bring it to him for the answer.

When you are in trouble…look to Jesus
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2

If  you feel lacking, Jesus knows all of your needs
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 6:33

When you don’t know what to do, Jesus knows exactly what to do
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

When we keep our laser focus on Jesus, then the only thing we see is Him, and not our problems/situation/circumstance.  We are trusting that only He has the answers for everything that we need or what we may be facing.

Lord I thank you for your Word that constantly reminds me that you are with me, that you have my life planned out, that you are my protection and my provision.  I pray that when I lose my focus that I realize it sooner, rather than later, and set my sights back on you where they belong, in Jesus’ name.
